Interlibrary Loans

The ILL service can obtain material which is not held by the Library, and which is needed for research and study. On request, we can obtain the missing items from the library's collection through interlibrary loans from national (provincial) or foreign libraries, in originals or copies.

The lending library decides on the use of the requested documents (borrowing or on-site use only).

What you need to know about inter-library loans:

  • you must have a valid library card to use the service;
  • you are responsible for all costs associated with obtaining the documents.

What are the possible costs?

  • Return postage for domestic loans, except for ELTE citizens
  • if you request a copy, you will be charged at the library's copying rate (including postage for photocopies);
  • for international loans, HUF 4500 per volume when requesting an original document (in some cases the sending library may set a higher fee). If the foreign partner supplies a copy of the document, the cost of the copy will be charged (again, the prices of the supplying library will apply);
  • in the event of loss or damage to the document, you will be liable to pay the amount of compensation set by the sending library;
  • pay all the costs of the inter-library request, even if the document requested is no longer needed.

How do I do it?

The service can be requested

  • via the Library loan forms on the website
  • by e-mail: konyvkozi@sek.elte.hu
  • or in person at the Public Services Desk on the first floor.
