Due to the relocation of our external warehouse the books and doctoral dissertations stored there, as well as the entire stock of the library's periodicals, will be unavailable until the beginning of January 2025. Many of our books are still available for loan and current literature can be found on the open shelves.

The Library will be closed on the 29th November 2024 due to an university event.

The restoration workshop of the Eötvös Loránd University Library has been renewed

The museum collection of the ELTE University Library and Archive is part of the national cultural heritage and also significant in Europe (185 codes, including 14 corvinas, 1,200 ancient prints, 11,000 16th-century antiques, 15,000 baroque and 75,000 18th-century work). The main tasks of the library also include the care, preservation and presentation of this unique historical collection.

In the restoration workshop of the University Library, the museum stock is being put in order. This year, the workshop underwent a partial renovation, which included the reconstruction of the workshop's floor and walls, as well as the purchase of some new furniture.

In parallel with the renewal of the workshop, thanks to the generous donation of President János Áder, it was possible to purchase a modern paper casting table. Due to the support of the Self-Government of Belváros-Lipótváros, additional products belonging to the modern water table (dry-wet vacuum cleaner, light dimmer) were also purchased with the participation of the Foundation for the University Library. A water table specifically designed for paper restoration is needed to replace missing old prints, codices, or to reinforce moldy, weak sheets.

The restoration workshop can be visited on the major open days of the library or by prior arrangement. Information: titkarsag@lib.elte.hu

Restoration workshop presentation: 400 HUF / person
